DEAR PASTOR
Crowded But Corrupted
Churches are booming. Services are packed. Buildings are getting bigger. But the question is — what’s growing: the Kingdom or just the crowd?
Real Patterns We’re Seeing Today
In South Africa, a “prophet” was caught on video feeding his members grass, claiming it would bring them closer to God. In another case, a pastor sprayed insecticide into the faces of his members as “anointed deliverance.” These churches had massive followings, packed crusades, and media coverage — but no sound doctrine.
“Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!” (Ezekiel 13:3)
In the United States, a celebrity pastor led a megachurch with tens of thousands of attendees. He preached love, grace, and blessing — but rarely touched on sin or holiness. Later, he was exposed for serial adultery and financial scandals. Still, many defended him because “he helped a lot of people.”
“They will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.” (2 Timothy 4:3)
In Nigeria, a church leader boasted of having private jets while members trekked home hungry. His teachings focused on sowing seeds to tap into wealth — never mind the manipulation, emotional blackmail, or fake testimonies of instant riches.
“Your leaders lead you astray; they turn you from the path.” (Isaiah 3:12)
In Kenya, a “pastor” led hundreds to their death by telling them to fast until Jesus came. Men, women, and children died in the forest under his command — while he lived in secrecy and stored food for himself. This was not revival — it was religious cultism in disguise.
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6)
Biblical Proofs This Was Foretold
Matthew 7:21-23 — Jesus said many will say, “Lord, Lord,” but He will declare, “I never knew you.” Even miracles are not proof of a true church if there is no obedience.
Revelation 3:1 — The church in Sardis had a name for being alive, but Jesus said it was spiritually dead.
Jeremiah 5:31 — “The prophets prophesy falsely, the priests rule by their own power, and My people love to have it so.”
What Does This Mean for Us Today?
A full church is not always a faithful church.
A loud pulpit is not always a holy one.
When churches care more about trends than truth, more about branding than the Bible, and more about money than ministry, we become crowded but corrupted.
We don’t need more numbers — we need deep roots. We don’t need more likes — we need more light. It’s time to return to the Word, the Cross, and the Holy Spirit’s conviction.
“For judgment must begin at the house of God...”
(1 Peter 4:17)
